With a surge in demand for family visits, tomb-sweeping, spring outings and tourism during the Qingming Festival, China's railways sent 20.093 million trips on April 4, a new record for daily passengers this year. Travel remained safe, stable and well-organized.
As of 9 a.m. on April 6, over 74.32 million tickets had been sold for the holiday period via the 12306 platform. According to the pre-sale data for train tickets during the holiday period, popular departure cities included Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Wuhan, while top destinations were Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Chengdu. High traffic was seen on routes such as Nanning-Guangzhou, Shenzhen-Hong Kong and Changsha-Wuhan. Tickets were still available for April 7 on routes like Shanghai-Nanjing, Chengdu-Chongqing and Shenyang-Dalian. Intercity trains in regions like Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Shanghai-Nanjing-Hangzhou and Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong had ample availability.
As the final day of the Qingming Festival approaches, railways are anticipating a peak in return travel. To accommodate this, railway authorities across the country are optimizing operations, increasing capacity on key routes and times, and enhancing station and onboard services to ensure a safe and orderly return journey for passengers. CR-Beijing has added 55 additional passenger trains, using smart devices to enhance security checks and improve efficiency. CR-Huhhot has expanded normal-speed trains to destinations like Yinchuan, Wuhai, Chifeng and Tongliao, further boosting capacity. CR-Taiyuan has added 86 additional trains to destinations including Beijing, Tianjin and Xi'an, ensuring that passenger demand is fully met.
